Rare Breeds Cantre - Family Day Out

We recently took a trip to the Rare Breeds Centre in Kent, which is a 100 acre farm with so much to do, from pig racing to animal encounters there is something to keep the children entertained all day.

We arrived around 10am and were instantly greeted with the sight of animals, near the car park were a couple of fields with some sheep in and at the entrance to the farm there were a couple of goats. Firstly we took a look into Creepy Crawly World, a room full of insects and reptiles, from trantulas to snakes to lizards, Lil's loved looking at them all but was glad that they were behind glass.

We then decided to go to the petting area first which Lils absoloutly love, there were bunny rabbits, guinea pigs and a goat out for the children to say hello to, there are also a few animals in pens around the edge including pigs, more goats, a horse and a donkey.

We then joined queue for the tractor/trailor ride, the ride itself takes around 15-20 minutes so be prepared to wait a little bit for the trailor to come back around. The ride itself was fun and took you around the farm to see what else was around. On the way back down to the queue a young lad asked to go faster and the driver decided why not, it was so bumpy but the children had somuch fun bouncing around.

From there, we diced to have some lunch, there is a large area with toilets, a cafe, a large play park and lots of seating areas which we took full advantage off, we took a picnic with us and enjoyed letting Lil's and her friend play in the play park for a while whilst us adults enjoyed a hot drink and a catch up.

The farm has a few play parks that the kids can take frull advantage off, each one being very different from the last, sadly we only got to explore two of them but definetly plan on visiting again, we explored the second play park later on in the day, this one one that was like an asault course, both me and Lil's worked together to get through the rope and wood obstacles that were before us.

There are a few woodland walks that take you to different parts of the farm, we took a short one as it was quite a warm day. it took us to near a sheep field. There are many different animal pens to visit, during our trip we got to see different types of pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys and also some pregnant ewes.

On the way back to the carpark to took a look around the aviary, this in one you can actually go into and have the birds flying right over your head, it took a while to find a couple of the birds but it was really nice for the kids to experience this. Lastly we got roped into watching the pig race, such a random thing to watch. They have four pigs that are lead around a course by some children encouraging them to run the right way, the pigs pretty much did there own thing but was fun to watch.

We visited the gift shop before going back to the car and I was suprised to find one that wasn't at all overpriced, Lilly came home with some animal figures of some that she had seen that day and a snowglobe with the name of the farm itself. It truely was a fantastic day out and we would definetly visit again.
